EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY
I’m on CBC Radio One Friday morning: the topic,
Canadian nationalism. Or rather, the Canadian
Alliance’s lack of it. Anyone who lives in Canada will
know how to find the CBC on his radio dial, but for
those Canadian that can’t (or won't) listen live or
(rarer still) for those Americans (or otherwise)
interested in this arcane subject, go here
for Internet radio in your time zone. (Somewhere between
8.15 to 8.30 a.m. in each of Canada’s six time zones.
It's a big country.)
The CBC keeps a permanent archive of commentaries in
Real Audio format as well as posting the texts. I’ll
link when available.
Update: Here
it is.

ARMY OF DARKNESS
Dave
Stevens looks forward to "the day
when cloning is as commonplace as ordering a pizza"
and has "a few requirements for any clone created
in [his] image." Could it be that Dave has not seen
Harold Ramis’s amusing movie Multiplicity?
Michael Keaton had a few requirements too, but things
did not work out quite as he expected. The "no
unauthorized access to [the] wife" requirement was
a particular difficulty, as I recall.

POETRY CORNER
To Failure
You do not come dramatically, with
dragons
That rear up with my life between their paws
And dash me butchered down beside the wagons,
The horses panicking; nor as a clause
Clearly set out to warn what can be lost,
What out-of-pocket charges must be borne
Expenses met; nor as a draughty ghost
That's seen, some mornings, running down a lawn.
It is these sunless afternoons, I find
Install you at my elbow like a bore
The chestnut trees are caked with silence. I'm
Aware the days pass quicker than before,
Smell staler too. And once they fall behind
They look like ruin. You have been here some time.

HOUSEKEEPING
I've updated all the links on my blogroll. As always,
the links are kept current only on the Index and latest
archived half-month pages. For some reason I cannot even
begin to understand, I cannot add more half-months to
Ambler Archive page. They exist, and you can get to them
from the hyperlinks attached to the bottom of each post
but not from the Archive page. Which is strange, because
they have been added to the Archive page at my end. I
have tried many times to fix this, going so far as to
tear down the page and rebuild it from scratch, but no
go.
